FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
Do you accept walk-ins?
K
L
We are an appointment-based business, however, it is always worth asking if you are passing, as you might catch us on a quiet day or have great timing and pop in when we can accommodate.
Can I buy the products that were used on my hair?
K
L
We stock a range of products, if we do not have the specific product, we can add it to our weekly order list and have it in salon for you within a week.
Can I have a manicure or another short beauty treatment whilst my colour develops?
K
L
Your colour is usually on for between 25-45 minutes, this is a perfect amount of time to sneak in an extra treatment, without taking extra time out of your day.
What else do you offer other than hair?
K
L
We are a hair and beauty salon, so we also offer several beauty treatments, including waxing, massages, manicures, pedicures, and facials.
Do I need a patch test?
K
L
A patch test should be carried out before any chemical process in which a substance will come into contact with your skin; this can include hair colour, eyebrow and lash tinting. Please enquire when booking if you are unsure. Our team know when these are necessary and our online booking system will prompt you to arrange.
My brush is always full of hair, is that normal?
K
L
We lose between 75-100 hairs each day, this is perfectly normal and is a result of the natural growth cycle of the hair. Regular brushing ensures the hairs that need to shed, do so, if you are someone who seldomly brushes your hair, more will come out at the same time when you do.
If you ever notice a higher volume of hairs being lost, or your hair feels thinner than you’re used to, please seek the opinion of a qualified trichologist, who will be able to assist.
My hair started to fall out after my child was born, is it permanent?
K
L
During pregnancy, the hair growth cycle pauses, hairs that would usually shed, remain. Once the hormone levels return to normal, post-partum, the cycle continues and so you experience hair loss. These hairs would have fallen normally without pregnancy and will be replaced by new growth. Due to the positioning of the hair follicle (where the hair grows from) it will take approximately 12 weeks for the hair to reach the scalp’s surface, because of this, it will be a few months before you notice the regrowth.
Again, if you are in any way concerned, contact a qualified trichologist for advice.
How long should I wait before washing my hair after having it coloured or permed?
K
L
With a perm, the internal structure of the hair is broken down and reformed around the rollers, this is quite a process and so hair should be left for at least 48 hours to settle down. With a colour, the time you leave before the first wash won’t really affect the colour, more the frequency of subsequent washes, therefore you should aim for every 2-3 days for washing and use salon recommended colour saving products.
I’ve heard that it’s better not to colour clean hair, so I haven’t washed it for you, is that right?
K
L
We are asked this and similar questions quite often. Freshly washed hair is softer and more difficult to control, so before your hair is styled and put up for a special occasion, it is better not to wash it the same day as your visit, however, with colouring hair, the cleaner the hair, the better as certain products can act as a barrier (for example grey coverage sprays and powders). That said, when bleach is being applied to your scalp, the natural oils on the surface can help to protect your skin. This does not mean you need to arrive at your colour appointment, with hair you’ve refrained from washing for over a week 😉
Is it true, the older you get, the shorter and lighter you should go with your hair?
K
L
This question needs breaking into two parts. Firstly, there is no age limit to long hair, if you want to wear it long, wear it long, with all ages however, long hair is heavier and so, can just hang without shape when left one length. To lift your features, ask your stylist to cut some shorter, face framing layers at the front, this will create lift and shape, whilst retaining length. Secondly, we do recommend going lighter as we age, this is due to the natural shade of our skin changing, becoming lighter, this means the colours that suited us when we were younger won’t necessarily continue to suit as we get older.
